VICTORY: Gov. Newsom Signs Animal Protection Bills Into Law, Banning Fur, Circus Animal Acts, Exotic Animal Skins, & Bobcat Trophy Hunting!

3.19.19In a major victory for the animals, on Saturday, October 12, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed four landmark animal protection bills into lawbanning circus animal acts, new fur products, the sale of exotic animal skins, and the trophy hunting of bobcats statewide!

Senate Bill 313 - Circus Cruelty Prevention Act

Introduced by Senator Ben Hueso (D-San Diego), SB 313 bans circus animal acts throughout the state, making California the third state (joining New Jersey and Hawaii) to enact such a ban! The bill goes into effect on January 1, 2020.

Assembly Bill 44 - Fur Products Prohibition Act

Introduced by Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale) in December 2018, AB 44 bans the sale and manufacture of new fur products statewidemaking California the first state in the nation to outlaw fur. The ban goes into effect on January 1, 2023. 

Assembly Bill 1254 - Bobcat Hunting Prohibition Act

Introduced by Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Los Angeles), AB 1254 creates a moratorium on the trophy hunting of California's iconic bobcats. The bill makes California the first state in the nation to ban the trophy hunting of bobcats.

Assembly Bill 1260 - Endangered Wildlife

Introduced by Assemblymember Brian Maienschein (D-San Diego), AB 1260 protects endangered wildlife by banning the sale of exotic animal skins (and all other body parts).
